Crochet Newborn Hello Kitty
This Crochet Newborn Hello Kitty Hat & Diaper Cover Set was an Idea I got from a piece I worked up over a year ago. I worked up THIS cute little Newborn Dr. Seuss Hat & Diaper Cover but this was before my days of writing out what I did so there is no pattern.
I didn’t really want to make the same thing again so I decided to make a Crochet Newborn Hello Kitty for girls. I have the perfect little hello kitty buttons that I got from Epponie on Etsy.

Gauge: 3 hdc x 3 rows = 1″
Hat..
Now you may notice some of the rows will have a ♥ before them. Those are there because when I work with hdc in rows that turn I work in the back ridge and front loop for those rows. This will push all the ridges to the wrong side of the work. It is not necessary to do this, it’s just an option available.
Ear Flaps..
Lay hat fat in front of you and mark off the stitch where it folds. For both sides of the hat, count 3 stitches to the front of the hat and place a stitch marker. From the stitch mark in the fold, count 4 stitches towards the back of the hat and place a stitch marker. This is where you will work your ear flaps.
I remove the fold stitch markers now. For right hand crochet start on right side working left, for left handed crochet start on left side working right.
Hat Edging..
**I used Red Heart Soft Baby Steps Yarn – Colour Giggle with a US H8/5.00mm hook to do the edging of this hat, you can continue using Caron Simply Soft with your US I9/5.50mm**
Insert your hook into the back center of the hat (as shown below)
Below the picture show the corner turning stitch on the ear flaps and where you will place your 3 braid strands.
Adding Braided Ties..
Cut 12 strips of both colours of yarn, so you will have 24 strips.
Insert latch hook into each of the braid placement spaces drawing through 4 strands of yarn (as shown below) then braid your work.
Check out my Adding Braided Ties Tutorial.
Bow..
Eyes & Nose..
Hook: US D3/3.25mm
Yarn: Any Black & Yellow fingering yarn.
Ears..
To get the ears in the right spot I lay the hat down flat and then lay the ears next to the hat, using stitch markers I mark off where the ears belong before sewing them on.
Diaper Cover & Tail
**Add some stuffing into the tail**
