Baby Soft Crochet Chemo Cap
All this talk about soft yarn, one yarn I really like is Bernat’s baby co-ordinates, they have such a fun colour line and it’s a very soft yarn and you can easily substitute it for any of their #3 weight baby yarns.
I made this hat for my friends little girl using bernats baby co-ordinates, she was going through cancer treatment at the hospital near where i live. I went over and dropped off this hat. My friend told me that the bernat baby co-ordinates is a really great yarn because it is soft against the head when they don’t have hair due to treatment.
(Edit: The above pattern is no longer available at the original link I had.) I added some 1/16″ thick elastic and a white ribbon to the hat as I find with the above pattern and bernat co-ordinates together make a loose hat. Ribbon is sewn together with thread elastic on sewing machine.
My facebook fans have been requesting a crochet chemo cap pattern so I worked one up today, this is attempt #3 to get the right sizing and no puckering. Benat co-ordinates yarn is a great choice too because I believe you could get 3 adult hats from a ball, definitely 2 for sure! There is a FREE baby version HERE
Please donate hats wherever you can..

Thanks! This is very pretty and I’m always up for a new pattern. Yes, I really like Bernat baby yarns. They are soft and so pretty!
Thanks so much for this pattern! I made one for myself and I love how its soft and stretchy. It’s great to sleep in. I’m using the rest of the skein to make a couple more to donate at my treatment center.
Also, thanks to your site, I learned about cleanprint, which is great for downloading patterns to use while I’m spending hours getting treatment.
You are welcome. I’m glad you like it and also that you are sharing with others that need them. I have a few myself I need to donate.
I’m not sure how many of these I’ve made. 🙂 it was a happy accident when I got to the end of the skein, and made one snigger and shorter than the others. It made a great padded scarf liner or hat liner! I’m on a new skein now and planning to make more that way to donate.
(I forgot to mention when I posted before…I had to add an extra single v-stitch in one chain space for rows 5 and 6 to get the counts to work.)
I’ll check the pattern to fix the error. Were you able to get 3 hats from a ball of the bernat baby co-ordinates?
You are right Shari, the counts/stitches are not right. I’m working on it to fix it 😀
I *think* I got 4, but the last one was the shorter, snugger one. I kept 2, donated 2. I’m at treatment today and started on a new skein, planning to be more generous with this skein and only keep one. 🙂
Thanks again for this pattern! It’s so easy and quick and makes a very comfortable cap. I’m just sorry about the reason you created it. Prayers for that adorable baby Bella!
I’ll still double check on the counts to make sure. Thankfully little Bella has been doing well and is in remission where we hope she stays! All the best to you Shari.
