Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Star Spider Cowl

The first time I saw the star stitch I though it’s so pretty I had to use it to make something!!

Star Spider Cowl - Dearest Debi Patterns

Star Spider Cowl Pattern Notes..

DIFFICULTY RATING
COMPETENT
Crochet Pattern Difficulty Rating - Competent

Click HERE for pattern difficulty ratings.

Sizes:

Child 4-10 Years
Adult

Hook:

9.0mm

Yarn:

#6 Super Bulky, 1 – 400g (431 yards) Phentex Chunky ball. Check out the super bulky yarns at 👉 Yarnspirations.
For the child size I used approximately 280 yards.

Cowl..

Special Stitches:

  • Spider Stitch (SPST) – (sc, ch 1, sc) in same st.

Gauge:

(sc, ch 1, sc) = 1.25″
2 rows = 1″

Ch 44 (46), join with sl st to first ch, now working in the back humps of the ch, (spst in next ch, sk 1 ch) around, the last set of spider stitches will be worked in the back hump of the first ch that also has the joining sl st, do not join. (23 ch1 sps)
Rnd 2-19: spst in the first ch 1 sp from rnd 1 and in each ch1 sp around until work measures 7 inches. Once you’ve done your last spst, sk next sc, sl st into next sc, fasten off & weave in ends.

Hood..

Star Stitch…

Gauge:
ch 11, 4 star stitches = 4″ x 4.5″
Notes:
**I do not include written instructions for the star stitch, just your beginning counts and finished length. There is a video tutorial on how to do the star stitch by the Crochet Geek available HERE and a written tutorial available HERE!*

There are big enough spaces around the hood opening to work a drawstring through if you’d like.

I had added the yardage to ravelry and forgot to put it here. I’ve added it to the pattern now. I used just over half a 400g ball for the child size. If you are making adult size you will probably use about 3/4 of a 400g ball.

I give the math and gauge for the top part all you need to know is how to work the star stitch, I’ve linked tutorials to learn how to work the star stitch. I have one in the works and will be editing the pattern to include full instructions soon.
