October 3, 2012 By: DearestDebi19 Comments

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Hello Kitty Crochet Hat

Hello Kitty Crochet hat is a great hat for any time of year but it’s almost that time of year, my favorite time of year.. HALLOWEEN!! I love to make costumes for my kids and this year, my son wanted a store bought costume so I still have one little person to make something for.

We love hello kitty in this house so my 2 year old will be a hello kitty ballerina. I’ve already got her tutu made and just needed a hello kitty hat. Now to wait for the big day!!

For a 5 year old I would add a few extra chains to the hat part. Instead of starting with 66, I would start with 69 or 70 and make sure that your finishing length is 8 1/4 inches instead of 7 3/4.

A teen would be 20.5-22″ so Start with ch 77 and finish with a length of 9-10″ for the hat. The other pieces should work but might be on the smaller side.

My daughter is only 3 months I scaled the amount of chains to 56 but what would you think a good length would be?

For a 3-6 month old I would work in white till about 6.5-.6.75 inches height.

You do not turn, you just continue to work in the next stitch, you will be working in continuous rounds.

I guess I’m the only one confused about what size yarn? Is “bernat satin” the size? Sorry, I’m new to this and I want to make this for my 3yr old, but when I went to the store they had all kinds of sizes like “4 bulky” and “6 super bulky” just for the yarn and I didn’t know which one to get and how many …? I was pretty intimidated and I ran out of there like a bat outta-you know what! Help please!!!

Bernat satin is a type of yarn. On a yarn label you will have a number listed, satin is a #4. If you’d like some info about yarn weights and gauges I have a post available ->HERE<-

I made this for my grandaughter. It turned out sooo cute. She didn’t want the ear flaps or the braids.(but it still looks really cute) The my 3 yr old grandson wanted one so I made his black with green eyes(i put three strands of black in the middle for the pupils of the eyes. and the whiskers are white. Thanks for the super cute pattern!!! Now all the kids want one. 🙂

Have you or would you consider this pattern for a teen? My high school senior daughter is kray kray about Hello Kitty and I would LOVE to make this for her.

For a teen (21″) you would probably only need to add an extra inch to the piece so maybe 4 extra stitches to your starting counts and then for the length please refer to my Crochet/Knit sizes listed HERE.
