Crocodile Crochet Book by Dearest Debi Patterns

November 21, 2013 By: DearestDebicomment

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Crocodile Crochet Book

Crocodile Crochet Book all started in an attempt to find a way to decrease the crocodile stitch scales. These scales are also referred to as shells or even mermaid tears. I spend all day watching videos, reading through tutorials searching for how to decrease the scales to no avail.

On my search I did find some suggestions to gauge down hook size through the piece, another suggestion was to decreased chains between scales or gathered the work to close it off, but nothing about how to decrease the scales.

That night I was late night hooking up a crocodile crochet cowl when I made some mistakes. I looked at my work in hopes that I could maybe work with what I’d done and that is when it hit me, I figured out how to decrease the scales!! I finished up my crocodile crochet cowl with decreases in it and quickly started on an attempt at a crocodile crochet beanie.

Impecabble Crocodile Cowl

My first attempt at a crocodile crochet beanie I ended up making a Pine Cone!!

My second attempted at a newborn sized beanie I figured out! A crocodile crochet decreasing scale beanie! Check out the arial view below of the newborn sized beanie, it is the top of my crocodile pumpkin beanie. I’ve been asked why I would bother making something that has been done before.. Yes, there have been crocodile stitch hats made before but none of them have decreasing scales. I’ve never seen anything like this before! Check out THIS 3D video of the adult beanie, and while you’re checking it out make sure to follow me on instagram, I post a lot of sneak peeks on there!

There are 3 sizes of the crocodile beanies. Newborn and Adult, the child size is in the works. There is a free newborn pattern for crocodile crochet mittens to match any of the newborn crocodile beanies.

I have also worked up multiple sizing of the crocodile crochet bonnet, currently only the newborn size bonnet is available.
