Crochet Market Bags

March 4, 2013 By: DearestDebi11 Comments

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Crochet Market Bag

A crochet market bag perfect to use for your fresh fruits and veggies.

Over 5 years ago when I was living in Toronto there was a new law put into place that there would be a fee placed all plastic bags used to carry home purchases. This fee was even implemented in restaurants for take out bags but was not implemented for produce bags that are provided in grocery stores.

Even though I no longer live in a city that has this plastic bag fee I still carry around cloth bags to put my purchases in and try my hardest to say no to the plastic bag any way that I can. Now I have a way to eliminate using those plastic produce bags too.

This is just another Green Ideas my family uses . We are finding any way we can to reduce our carbon foot print and I’m also offering this Crochet Market Bag as a free pattern so that others too can help join in to help.

Say NO to the plastic bag!

Great patterns, Debi! I like how they are different than most bag patterns I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing at Hookin On Hump Day!

What is #0 cotton?? Is “#4 cotton” worsted weight (referring to the 4 on the label?)? Thanks. An example (brand name) might be a good illustration.

On the small market bag the first line of directions says chain 60, …join with slst to beg ch(60ch) does that mean total 120 . Do we join after first 60 with slst? Is it 60 stitches per side?
In laymans terms for this novice please. Thanks so much love the bags.

The 60 ch in brackets is the total count for the row. You chain 60 then join with a sl st to the first ch.

So the the total circumference of the opening is 60 Ch,. Making it a very small opening.
