Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon & Hand Bag

October 28, 2013 By: DearestDebi12 Comments

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon

Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon was inspired by the Crochet Flower Bud Granny Octagon. I figured I would attempt to make a hexagon and it was quite simple.

The Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon would be a great stash buster for a afghan of any size or you can use them any way you’d like. Each hexagon works up to be 4.5 inches.

I have used my Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon’s to make a granny bag. I made a total of 10 hexagons. I’m thinking about making one more for an inside pocket after I line the bag.

Yarn:

Caron Simply Soft Yarn in white, green & rose. For the Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon Bag I used 3 oz balls of each colour.

Yardage:

I unraveled my worked up pieces to figure out what the yardage would be. For the octagon white: 18 yards, octagon green: 3.5 yards, octagon flower: 7 yards, Square: 5 yards, Triangle: 3.5 yards. (Yardage listed is to work up 1 piece only.)

Hook:

US I9/5.50mm

Special Stitches:

  • v-st – dc, ch 1, dc in same st.
  • scv-st – sc, ch 1, sc in same st.
  • Shell – 5 dc in same st.
  • Popcorn Stitch (Pop-St) – 5 dc in same st, on last stitch draw up a 1″ loop, remove hook, insert hook beside first dc in behind the 5 dc, attach loop onto hook and draw up a loop.

Gauge:

  • 7 sc = 2″
  • Hexagon =4.5″

Rnd 4: (sc in center of pop-st (as shown below)

Crochet Flower Bud Granny Hexagon Bag..

To make the bag I worked up 10 hexagons and laid them out as shown below.

I worked an sc edging around the hexagons, working an sc in the corner stitch (corner stitch is the ch1 that was worked in the last round of work when hexagons were made.) I worked an ch1 then attached the next hexagon in the same corner stitch, working the ch1 in your corners makes it easier to join in yarn when working the other directions. If you finish a side of sc at a finished corner I used the invisible join method to attach it to the finished corner. All stitches were worked on the outside loops only as shown below.

There is a mistake in your pattern. It calls for 10 hexagons, but when you count them laid for joining, there is 11 of them. Which means I’ll have to make another one 🙂 And after downloading a free pattern from your website it doesn’t show neither the scheme, nor any other photos helping to understand your method of joining or making something round after round.

Photos are available on my blog. I will edit the written pattern to fix the amount of hexagons needed.
