Crochet Dress – Little Miss Yarn Ruffles
This was the first crochet dress pattern that I made and is now available Free! When making this dress I started out working from the top down and when I got down to the ruffles section of the dress I found myself stumped on how to add yarn ruffles working top down.
Originally this dress was named Little Miss Lady Jane but now has been changed to Little Miss Yarn Ruffles.
I searched online for any information I could about working crochet yarn ruffles but there was nothing, at one point I believe on About.com I read that ruffles worked top down were not possible. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED I said and this crochet dress was the result
This crochet dress would be super cute if you were to make a matching hat to go with it. There is a free beanie pattern HERE or you can add my lady bella bonnet pattern to match, for the bonnet pattern click HERE

Size:
Toddler 1-3 years
Stitches:
- fpsc – Front Post Single Crochet.
- fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
- cl st – Cluster Stitch, 3 dc in same sp.
- ss – Slip Stitch
Notes:
- Beginning ch 3 counts as first dc of row. Only turn work when specified.
- When first dc of row is made, I put my hoop through the last loop and same space as ch3. The last dc that joins the beg ch3 is also done through the same space. (Image 1 below) It creates a ribbing down the center back of the dress.
~I worked ch up 2 instead of a ch 3 for the first 5 rows, if you’d like to know more about ch up 2, check out my crochet resources page on my blog HERE.
Yarn:
3 – 5 oz balls of Red Heart Soft Yarn Rose Blush. For a 3/4 girls size you could use Caron Simply Soft Yarn for this dress but you will need to change your hook sizes. Replace US 7/4.50mm with a US H8/5.00mm and replace the US H8/5.00mm with a US I9/5.50mm (It will take 3 or 4 6oz balls of Caron Simply Soft).
Gauge:
7 dc = 2 x 3 rows = 1.75″
Hooks:
US 7/4.50mm
US H8/5.00mm
Supplies:
1 Button
Row 7:
Using 2 more stitch markers, with work facing you like in the picture above, the star marks your center cl st, **count 4 cl st’s to the RIGHT and place marker in center st of cluster, count 8 more cl st’s to the right and join it’s center st with the same stitch marker. Now follow from ** but count to the LEFT of the star.
Yarn Ruffles..
Special Instructions: Ss into next dc, draw up a 1″ loop on your hook (Image A), remove hook, turn work so you are looking at the wrong side, insert hook into same st from the back side (Image B), reattach the hook to the loop and bring the loop through the space, turn work so you are working on the right side back loops (Image C) .
Row 31:
Neck trim..
Arm trim..
Rosette..
To complete your crochet dress you could add a rosette to the back side. Using Red Heart Soft Yarn and either size of hook recommended for this pattern you can make the rosette from the pattern available HERE.

You’re so interesting! I don’t believe I have read through a single thing like that before.
So great to discover somebody with some genuine thoughts on this subject.
Seriously.. many thanks for starting this up. This website is
something that is required on the web, someone with
a little originality!

Any suggestions as how to enlarge this for a 4-5, or 5-6?
DearestDebi says
I don’t really.. you could gauge it larger possibly, but the larger the gauge the more gaps in the work.
