Crochet Christmas Tree Hat

October 4, 2013 By: DearestDebi5 Comments

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Crochet Christmas Tree Hat

Crochet Christmas Tree Hat is available in newborn and adult sizing. The newborn  Crochet Christmas Tree Hat pattern is available HERE.

I picked up some white Bernat dippity dots and while deciding on what to make a friend said a christmas tree. I decided to work up the newborn tree but have added on to it to make an adult sized  Crochet Christmas Tree Hat.

This pattern is competent crochet pattern, not because the pattern itself is difficult, it’s the dippity dots yarn. It was a pita the first time I started out on this tree, I frogged the first few rows a few times because I wasn’t working in the right stitch. Dippity dots can be difficult to work with at first but then it’s not so bad. If you do have to frog your work, DO NOT pull on it!! Gently pull on it making sure to wiggle the dots out with your fingers.

This hat pattern would work up with a worsted weight yarn, there’s lots of holiday yarns on the shelves now that would work nice. You need 2 colours, green and a brown for the trunk.

Any of the 3 sizes of Crochet Christmas Tree Hats could be used to make stuffed toys, if you know how to decrease in the round, stuff your tree and close it up. Add an angel or star to the top of your tree. I’ve included a link to the angel topper. Can’t wait to see how you decorate your Crochet Christmas Tree Hat!

Hook:

US I9/5.50mm

Yarn:

I used one 2.8oz ball of Green Bernat Dippity Dots Yarn (discontinued) for the adult size, maybe about half a ball for the child size or you could use a regular worsted weight yarn like Red Heart Shimmer Yarn (discontinued) Shamrock and you will need approximately 50 yards of Bernat Satin Yarn Mocha. Find Yarn substitutes at Yarnspirations.

Size:

Child & Adult

Gauge:

7 hdc x 5 row = 2 inch square

Special Stitches:

  • Working in back loops
  • fphdc (front post half double crochet) For a video tutorial click HERE.

Notes:

Do NOT join rnds unless specified.

Rnd 7: Looking at the inside of the hat, you’ll see a spiral, work under the spiral loops 2nd layer in (as pictured below)

Angel Tree Topper

Angel Appliqué

Angel Appliqué

Last week one of my testers Anna contacted me to test her very first pattern. She wrote out an angel appliqué that would be a great tree topper if you’d like to decorate your tree. To make it stand up on the tree I would almost make 2 of them, sandwich them together, whip stitch around the edges except the bottom of the angel, open up the angel and set on the top of the tree, if you want the angel to stay on securely, stitch it on.

For my angel below I used the recommended hook size and Red Heart Soft Touch Yarn-White instead of cotton. The pattern for the angel is available HERE.
