Crochet Toddler Flower Dress

April 13, 2013 By: DearestDebi3 Comments

Your favorite brands under one roof: Patons, Bernat, Caron, Lily Sugar‘n Cream, Phentex, and now Red Heart! New and innovative yarn is added all the time.

Crochet Toddler Flower Dress

I started this Crochet Toddler Flower Dress in hopes of making something completely different. As I got working on it I soon realized I had all this work done for the flower stitch lattice but it was too much for what I wanted to do.

I set the piece down for a week and contemplated what I should do with it. I got another idea so I picked it back up and started adding more work to it but again I wasn’t happy with the idea so I set it aside again.

I finally got the idea to make a Crochet Toddler Flower Dress with the piece.

This piece could be worked without the material slip in it but it would only be a beach style dress with a bathing suit under it. You could buy a little girls slip to go under it.

Size:

This dress is meant to fit toddlers 1-3 years, up to 24″ chest.

Supplies:
~ Button
~ Needle & thread
~ Yarn Needle

Flower Lattice..

Yarn: 1 120gram ball of Baby Luv or any other #1 yarn.

Hook: US G6/4.00mm

Gauge: 2 flowers = 3.75″

I worked up the flower lattice as shown in my video tutorial with the following edits.

~Start with a ch 11 instead of Ch 8, and end with a ch 3 instead of a ch 6.

~For your first row of work you will make 9 half flowers.

~Work rows until you have 9.5 flowers. To complete the 10th flower you will join them to your 1st row of work (The joining instructions are below the video).

To complete the 10th flower, the last row of work before the side seam you need to join it together with your beginning row of work. Below shows where we will be joining.

For your last row of work, the video states to start with a ch 9,  but you will only ch 5, draw up a loop, remove your hook, insert it into the corner stitch of your flower petal on the first row (flower petal join space as shown above), ch 4, now continue working on your row to create the first petal of your flower, stop after you’ve made your 2nd dc, draw up a loop and remove your hook, insert hook into your ch3 space and back into your loop, draw up a loop and then finish your ch3 of your petal, finish the 2nd petal of your flower. Instead of working ch7 between your flowers, ch 3, draw up a loop and remove your hook, insert it into the flower petal join of the first row and back into your loop, tighten your loop on hook and draw up a loop, ch 3 and continue on to your row making sure to join to the first row or work all the way along until you get to the unfinished side seam.

DO NOT FINISH THE SIDE SEAM.. until you’ve made your collar.

Collar..

Yarn:  Red Heart Soft Baby Steps Yarn – Colour Giggle (For the collar, arm trim & neck trim I used the colour giggle)

Hook: US H8/5.00mm

Gauge: 4 dc = 1″ (using larger hook)

Special Stitches:

  • invisible join

Arm Trim..

Hook: US 7/4.50mm

Crochet Toddler Flower Dress - Adding Arm Trim by Dearest Debi

Insert hook into both sides of work where your stitch marker is placed as shown below, this is your joining stitch.

Neck Trim..

Hook: US 7/4.50mm

Crochet Dress - Little Miss Ruffles

Adding Flower Lattice to Collar..

Starting at the arm pit, start counting over placing a stitch marker in the 6th, 13th, 21st & 28th stitch for both the front and back sides, join in your flower lattice by matching up the ch3 spaces with your stitch markers as shown below. (My flowers are completed because I finished off my seam edge first then took it out to join it, so my picture will look a little different.)

Crochet Toddler Flower Dress - Adding Lattice to Collar

Using your US G6/4.00mm hook and you will join your lattice to the collar in the same way that you joined the side seams together. Ch 3, remove hook, insert hook into the st marked with st marker and back on your loop, draw up a loop, ch 3, join to next flower, after 2nd dc of first petal worked, remove hook insert into st between stitch markers and back into loop, draw up a loop and continue to finish the flower. Continue to do this all the way around.

This is so cute! You are very good at making dresses. I love that you used the floral trellis stitch to make it. I can’t wait to do the stitch again and use your video instead of the other one I didn’t like on YouTube! Thanks for sharing at Hookin On Hump Day!
