Carrot Cake Crochet Mandala
This Carrot Cake Crochet Mandala was a fun little piece to make. I’ve been so busy over the summer I’ve not had a lot or time or it’s been too hot to crochet I was starting to get the itch before jumping back into 2 of the bigger projects I’m working on.
I was on Instagram yesterday and saw a wall of mandala’s Dedri from LookAtWhatIMade posted. I noticed one in particular I thought would look lovely with some flowers so I worked one up last night. Today I did a little digging and found the original design is Marinke’s Spoke Mandala.
This fall I plan on getting back to my photo tutorials for my spring fling and octagon afghan. For now I’m working on a video tutorial for my crocodile crochet tea cozy, subscribe on YouTube so you don’t miss out! Oh and I have 4 puppets to make by the end of November. Carrot Cake Crochet Mandala Pattern Notes..

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver (50 grams for entire mandala)
MC – White, AC1 – Green, AC2 – Stripes
Hook: US I9/5.50mm
Size: 10 inches wide
Gauge: 3 sc X 3 rows = 1 inch square
Starting with MC work a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as beg dc), work 11 dc in ring, join with sl st to beg dc. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 3 (counts as beg dc), dc in same dc, 2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st to beg dc. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 3 (counts as beg dc), 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg dc. (36 dc)
Rnd 4: ch 3 (counts as beg dc), dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg dc. (48 dc)
Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as beg dc), dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, sk next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg dc. (48 dc, 12 ch)
Put a stitch marker in MC pushing working tail to front before working next round.
Rnd 6: with AC1 work a standing dc in one of the skipped dc from rnd 4, ch 5, *dc in next sk dc from rnd 4, ch 5, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg dc, fasten off AC1. (12 dc, 12 ch5)
Rnd 7: insert hook back into MC, ch 3 (counts as beg dc), working in rnd 5 push rnd 6 to back out of way, dc in next dc, *ch 2, dc in next 4 dc, rep from * around (omit 2 dc on last rep), join with sl st to beg dc. (48 dc, 12 ch2)
Put a stitch marker in MC pushing working tail to front before working next round.
Rnd 8: with AC2 work a standing dc in a dc from rnd 6 (push ch2 from rnd 7 to back out of way), work 3 dc in same dc, ch 7, *4 dc in next dc from rnd 6, ch 7, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg dc, fasten off AC2. (48 dc, 12 ch7)
Rnd 9: insert hook back into MC, working in rnd 7 unless otherwise specified, ch 3 (counts as beg dc), *2 dc in next dc, fpsc around 4 dc from rnd 8, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, rep from * around (omit last dc on last rep), join with sl st to beg dc. (72 dc, 12 sc)
Rnd 10: ch 1, sc in same dc as beg ch1, *sk next 2 dc, 5 tr in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc, rep from * around (omit last sc on last rep), join with sl st to beg sc, fasten off MC. (60 tr, 24 sc)
Rnd 11: with AC1 work a standing *fpsc in next 5 dc, ch 1, extended fpdc (12 yo) into dc from rnd 1, ch 1, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg sc, fasten off AC1, weave in ends. (60 dc, 24 ch, 12 extended dc)
